A Taste of NostalgiaFFXI is having another “Return to Vana'diel” event starting today, so I re-installed FFXI last night and quickly registered. (Thanks to Cymry for letting me know!) Much to my joy, I found that all my FFXI characters were recoverable — including the original Amelante. The last time I logged in was summer 2005. I even recovered one of my mules, Ayachaacha the tarutaru. I was so heartbroken when sometime last year, I decided to log in and attempt to reactivate my content IDs. Because it had been over a year since I cancelled, Amelante and everyone else were gone. Yet somehow I knew they weren't truly deleted. (Storage is cheap and it makes business sense for MMOG developers to not delete characters due to inactivity — it lets people return and throw more money their way. ;) Yet I had just missed the last “Return to Vana'diel” event. I finally uninstalled the game then, after almost 2 years of being retired. Anyhow, being realistic, I don't plan any sort of serious return to FFXI. I just want to see what's new. Maybe tag along on HNM hunts or Dynamis runs. Raise a chocobo. Play around with the summoner job. (And blue mage — I went ahead and ordered the Vana'diel Collection 2007, which includes everything including the current expansion on a convenient DVD.) It will be nostalgic, I'm sure. And I definitely want to see who else from the original Tyranny of Heaven is still around. :) Anyway, yeah. As if I didn't have enough MMOG's to play. Tabula Rasa and Hellgate: London will be releasing within a month. And sadly, Guild Wars has been neglected. And yeah, all that on top of WoW raiding. :)
