Sigh @ ImpostersI preordered Hellgate: London some time ago. (And was subsequently able to participate in its beta.) Anyway, the game went live on Halloween. I started installing it shortly after coming home from work, and when it was done, I went to create my first online character — Amelante the Summoner. Well, from the title of this post, you can guess that I wasn't successful. Someone else already registered an Amelante (who was also a Summoner) and they were already level 7. It was very surreal. I tried chatting with this person to see if it was someone I knew — nothing, I was just ignored. (Though I can't blame them, HGL's chat system kinda sucks.) Oh well. Amelante is a real name (unlike ZerothAngel), so I really can't expect any level of uniqueness. But it is sufficiently rare and 90% of all Google references are about Amelante of Kilrogg (WoW) or Amelante of Lakshmi (FFXI) or some other Amelante of mine. I still think it's someone I know or am acquainted with. Still, if it was done on purpose, it was a pretty lame thing to do. (And I have my suspects...) And you know, that's why games with a single world/shard/server should have last names for characters, or even better, names with a minimum of 2 words like in Guild Wars. It just really sucks when you can't use a name you've used for over 5 years.
