And on the non-MMO front...

A few weeks ago, I picked up Demon's Souls on the PS3. Some random review (calling it something like the most tortuous, but also, the most rewarding experience ever) caught my eye. So I just had to see what it was like.

And after the first day, I was hooked. It's surprising to find an RPG that gives serious weight to death: It's not just "you have to start over again," it's "you have to start over again from the last checkpoint." And the last checkpoint was the last boss you killed!

And not only that, but you lose all the "XP" and "currency" (one and the same in this game — souls) at the spot you died. If you can make it back without dying, you can regain all your hard work. Otherwise, if you die again, you lose it all. But at least the game lets you keep all your equipment through death...

I just wish I had more time to play this game.

Recently, Borderlands was finally released on the PC. (Consoles saw it a week earlier.) This loot-driven game is also very enjoyable... taking the classic dungeon crawler format and giving it a post-apocalyptic makeover (with GUNS!)

It's got a co-op mode, but I'm a bit hesitant about playing co-op, especially since I haven't played through it yet. But it's not like it has any real story or anything, aside from the overarching quest line.

Anyhow, I picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PS3 sometime when it was released. Sadly, I never finished it. It pains me when I leave a game unfinished... but it's usually due to bad timing (i.e. a new game comes out). For Batman: AA, that was CO...

For Deadspace, that was Batman: AA...

And before that, was Prototype. At least I did finish Prototype. But only one playthrough, and I never bothered trying to complete my trophies/web-of-intrigue.

So little time.
