Been a While (Part 2)

As far as MMOs go, sadly they've been neglected over the months, mostly due to X3:TC. I still have active subs to Warhammer Online and EVE Online. But all I do in WAR is just log on for a few minutes once every week or two, which I do to avoid getting kicked from my guild (though the GM probably wouldn't kick me now at this point... who knows).

EVE Online I regret not playing over the Winter. Earlier, I had joined a new corp which then joined a relatively well-known alliance. And the stories of conquest I hear (from MMO news sites!) make me wish I was there. Though I'm not really sure if I could have really contributed, since the alliance mainly runs its ops during European prime time. For the past few months, I've only been logging in to queue up the next skill to train (on all 3 of my accounts).

I feel like I'm wasting a bunch of money (in fact, I know I am) with WAR and EVE on the back burner, but eh... it's all part of my entertainment budget anyway.

Playing Champions Online stalled as well (again, due to X3:TC). I had left Sun Diver at level 37 or so... and she would stay that way for nearly months. I did log in during the holiday event, got my perks and loot, but that was that for a while. Happily though, the launch of Revelations renewed my interest and Sun Diver finally managed to hit the level cap last weekend. I'm trying to get a taste of the end game lairs, but once I do, I have a feeling I'll just settle on UNITY dailies and even leveling alts. Raiding. Never again!

I'm really looking forward to the "Adventure Packs" that Cryptic will be putting out for CO. The upcoming melee and supernatural buffs are of great interest to me because my next two alts happen to be melee and supernatural users. Can't wait for that to go live. (Already on the test server!)

Finally, there's a new game. Yes, I did get into the closed beta of Star Trek Online back in October or so. While rough then, it showed a lot of promise (especially space combat). Fast-forward to head start in late January when I bought yet another lifetime subscription. (I just love throwing my money at Cryptic, can't you tell?) I think I only managed to play a day or two, leveling my captain to level 5 before X3:TC sucked me back in.

Anyway, I started playing again in early March and I'm greatly enjoying it. Yeah, missions are repetitive (only like half a dozen mission archetypes) and ground combat kinda sucks, but I just love the writing the and feel of the game. Each "episode" (which consists of typically 2-4 missions, both space & ground) roughly takes an hour to complete — which is perfect for my casual playstyle. My captain is level 34 or so (that's Captain 4)... so the level cap is looming. I really love flying my Defiant-class ship around.

Space combat is definitely far more involved than EVE. (I literally have close to 30 abilities on my hotbars.) It also feels a bit more tactical. (I'm strictly talking about all this in a PvE sense.) But I'm not going to commit the folly of comparing the two games. EVE is definitely a richer, more in-depth game aimed at one particular audience. While some of STO's mechanics/systems truly shine (character customization & advancement, space combat), it's aimed at a more casual audience.

Me, being a gamer, can totally appreciate both games. :)

Finally, one last MMO (or MMO-lite)... I did buy and briefly play Global Agenda. Admittedly, I'm stretched way too thin now and I really have no opinions about it... simply because I haven't given it much time. Though I'm sure I'm way past the 30- or 60-day free time mark. (But luckily, that's just for the MMO'ish features.) I'll get back into it once I'm in a shooter mood again.
