Summer UpdateAhh, summertime. On the single player game front, not much has changed. I did finally finish Dead Space. I think it took me a little over a month to beat (though it's only a 15-hour game). At my slowest point, I think I was doing a chapter a weekend. If you've played it or know what it's about, you'll understand why I insisted only playing it on weekends, during the day. ;) Overall, I loved it and I can't wait for Dead Space 2. It left me with a craving for more survival horror, so I picked up F.E.A.R. (the first one) and Metro 2033. Yeah, they're more shooter than survival horror, but I was just addicted to that feeling of dread. I'm not too far in either game, though F.E.A.R. isn't too impressive. It tries a little too hard to be scary. It almost has that cheap horror-flick feel, with the startling sounds and scary flashes. Metro 2033, on the other hand, has great atmosphere/visuals, though at this time, I don't really feel too scared. On the MMO front, not much has changed. EVE and WAR are still on the sidelines. I briefly tried out the new city siege in WAR. It was fun (though we lost), but sadly, the sieges don't seem to coincide with my play times. I might have to play more. EVE launched planetary interaction. My industrial character immediately colonized 3 planets and set up a production chain for one particular commodity. I really can't say that it has paid for itself yet, but at least the commodity is still quite rare in my region and PI is low-maintenance. CO has been sidelined as well, these past few months. I thought the launch of Serpent Lantern would bring me back into the game, but it really hasn't. I should sit down and finish it sometime with Sun Diver. Though I must say, I just fought Freon and got my butt thoroughly kicked like 5-6 times. I still haven't figured out the trick to him, but I had way better luck when I stopped turtling and went all-out (even switching to an offensive passive). STO has been getting all my attention lately. I hit max level a few weeks ago and I thought my interest would wane. It hasn't. In fact, I still play my max level character, rarely hopping on alts. Oddly, the repetitive exploration missions, deep space encounters, and fleet actions keep me entertained. I just love tweaking my builds: choice of bridge officer powers, bridge officers themselves, gear. And I almost always play on elite difficulty. It's been a blast. Lastly, I did pick up a few console games recently: Red Dead Redemption, Transformers: War for Cybertron. RDR didn't really hold my interest much. Like I've said, the only open-world game that has held my interest long enough to complete it was Prototype. War for Cybertron I would like to get into more. It's really interesting seeing all these origin stories (which are all canon, according to Hasbro). The gameplay is pretty awesome too. Though I have a slight pang of regret for getting it on the PS3. I should have gone with the PC version because, after all, it's a third-person shooter.
