Apocalypse and EorzeaSome time ago, I picked up Darksiders for the PS3. I'd heard many good things about this game (and the fact that it has no quick-time events really drew me) and I'd been curious for a while. I finally decided to take the $20 plunge. Well, it is a great game, and I love the story. I haven't finished it yet, but I think I can say it's now my favorite of those types of games. (Action-adventure'ish? You know, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry, etc.) My only complaint about it on the PS3 is... well, the graphics kinda suck. It only runs at 720p. I don't wanna be an HD snob, but all of my computer games run at my screen's max resolution (1920x1080). I always feel like I'm looking through a blurry lens when I play Darksiders. Anyway, I anticipate finishing it "soon." Though, the odds are against it, looking at my track record. On another front, the STO weekly episodes have been a blast. I look forward to doing them every Saturday. And up until a few days ago, I'd been putting 1-2 hours into STO every night, doing my daily runs. What changed? Well, Final Fantasy XIV came out a few days ago. Old linkshell-mates from FFXI were planning to regroup and create a new LS, but seemingly, that idea has waned. Anyway, FFXIV has been... nostalgic. To me, it seems like Square-Enix took FFXI, upgraded the graphics engine, added a few new systems (retainers, guildleves, yay!), streamlined jobs, and made a nice, evolutionary jump. Even though my first MMO was FFXI, I really have to complain: The user interface in FFXIV sucks. It's only bearable with a modern PS3/360 controller (which I do thankfully have). Very mouse-unfriendly, though the keyboard-only mode reminds me of the way I used to play FFXI. The lag is also really bad. It makes me wonder how they're going to accommodate all the non-Collector's Edition players when it launches on the 30th. Anyhow, it's too soon for me to give an opinion. But apparently, my WoW buddies have no intention of trying it (no surprise there) and the O.G. ToH crew are currently MIA. The only person who's shown any interest is my brother, and that's only in, of course, the PS3 version. Too bad for him, that won't launch for another 6 months or so. Anyway, my point is, if I stick with it, I'll probably be alone. Just status quo. The only games where I'm in a real guild are STO and WAR...
