Gaming Overload

I've gotten so many new games since my last post and started just as many, but for the time being, only a handful can keep my attention.

I briefly started playing Alien Swarm and I regret not playing that when it was more popular with my Steam friends. I had to play with bots in order to finish it. I dragged my brother into playing a full campaign and it was pretty fun. I hope it gets developed into a complete game someday. The whole isometric shooter thing also piqued my interest (albeit briefly) in similar games, like Alien Breed and Zombie Nation.

With the advent of the Winter Steam sale, I picked up a lot of games old and new. The Ball, Zeno Clash, MTG: Duels of the Planeswalkers, and various music games. The Ball is pretty neat — basically imagine the Weighted Companion Cube level on Portal and build a whole game of a dozen or so puzzles around that concept. I hope to finish it sometime. I played the demo for Zeno Clash eons ago and while I found it neat, I couldn't get around to buying it. At the Steam sale price, I just couldn't resist this time.

Tons of new console games as well: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Little Big Planet 2, King of Fighters XII, Marvel vs. Capcom 3... But sadly, I hardly play console games these days.

I did finally finish Borderlands. Of course, no one else plays it anymore, so I can't really check out the DLC... (They seem pretty boring without a full co-op party.)

I'm well underway with Dead Space 2, about halfway through. I've been loving it so far.

On the MMO front, I finally gave up on Warhammer. I'd barely been playing it, so I couldn't justify paying for it anymore. Ah well, looking forward to Dark Millennium Online in 2013 or whatever.

Champions Online did its F2P launch and I was in the closed beta for a while. The whole thing rekindled my interest in CO and it's good to see the server populated again. Of course though, all that extra attention I've been lavishing on CO meant that STO has gone neglected. But the new weekly series in STO has started up, so I at least play every weekend. I'm really glad I bought pre-launch lifetime subs to both games since they've both paid for themselves already (or nearly so).

A few Steam friends bought Global Agenda on sale and that also rekindled my interest in that game. I ended up rolling the other classes, playing through the single player campaign, and enjoying some PvE and PvP games with other people. But nowadays I just mostly do solo PvE runs. As usual, it's not very fun when there's no one you know around, and as usual yet again, the only game my WoW-era gaming friends will play with dedication is... WoW.

I'm still on my free trial period for FFXIV. I haven't tried that game since the last few major updates, I guess I should have a look.

Finally finished Guild Wars: Eye of the North, just last night, in fact. I just need 4 more Hall of Monument points and I'll be happy. :P

RIFT is launching (head start) in a few days, and out of sheer impulse, I pre-ordered the game. This game has not been on my radar at all as it struck me as yet another fantasy game (which it is). But the videos were impressive and the game mechanics (soul system, rift events, etc.) seem impressive. I'll probably roll on the same server as my STO fleet. I guess if RIFT is successful with me, it will take over (both conceptually and financially) the spot that was left by Warhammer...
